About This Course

The principal objective of the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Data Science is to develop the knowledge and skills needed to extract and communicate business-focused insights from data. Course Requirements

For entry onto the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Data Science, learners must satisfy the following official entry requirements as published in the October 2025 specification.

  • An honours degree in a related subject, a UK Level 6 diploma, or an equivalent overseas qualification

  • Mature learners with relevant management experience may be considered — learners must check eligibility with the delivery centre prior to registering

  • Learners must be 21 years of age or older at the beginning of the course

  • Evidence of English language competency is required for learners not from a majority English-speaking country (see OTHM's English Language Expectations page)

Assessments

All units in the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Data Science are internally assessed by the approved centre and externally verified by OTHM. Assessment is criterion-referenced based on the achievement of all specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

  • Written reports of approximately 3500 words per unit, demonstrating fulfilment of all learning outcomes

  • Source code submissions accompanying written reports for practical units (Data Analysis and Visualisation, Advanced Predictive Modelling, and Data Mining, Machine Learning and AI)

  • Internal assessment and marking by a qualified centre assessor, with an audit trail of learner achievement

  • External verification by OTHM to ensure standards are met across all assessed units

Progression

Successful completion of the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Data Science enables learners to progress into or within employment and to continue their academic studies. As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual, learners may be eligible for advanced entry into corresponding Master's programmes at many universities in the UK and overseas.
