Course Requirements

All applicants must meet the official OTHM entry requirements. Learners must be aged 21 and above, hold a degree or equivalent qualification at RQF Level 6 or SCQF Level 10, and be currently registered with a statutory healthcare regulatory body.

  • Must hold a degree or equivalent (RQF Level 6 / SCQF Level 10) or provide evidence of ability to study at degree level

  • Must be a registered healthcare professional (e.g. GMC, GDC, NMC, HCPC, GPhC) with no conditions noted on professional body registration

  • Healthcare professionals without independent prescribing rights must provide evidence of working under the clinical oversight of a professional holding regulated prescribing rights

  • English language proficiency required – learners from non-majority English-speaking countries must provide evidence of competency (e.g. IELTS or equivalent)

Assessments

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the approved centre and externally verified and quality assured by OTHM. The qualification is criterion-referenced, based on the achievement of all specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Learners must pass all assessment components for each unit; there is no graded outcome beyond Pass.

  • Short Answer Questions (SAQs) – externally set by OTHM, completed under centre-controlled conditions, and internally marked; assesses knowledge components across all units

  • Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) – a synoptic clinical assessment in which learners demonstrate competence across units in real-time practice, including pre-treatment consultation, injectable treatment delivery, and post-treatment follow-up; a minimum of 10 observed and 10 supervised treatments for both toxins and fillers is required

  • Logbook – a record of all clinical treatments delivered, including consultation notes, pre- and post-treatment photographs, treatment descriptions, adverse event records, and reflective learning accounts; mapped to assessment criteria and assessed by centre assessors

  • Written Assignments – used to assess knowledge and understanding of health and safety, risk management, and clinical theory; completed in a secure virtual learning environment with centre strategies to ensure authenticity

Progression

As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual, successful graduates are eligible to progress to corresponding Master's top-up programmes at UK and overseas universities with advanced standing. Certificate holders may also progress to the full OTHM Level 7 Diploma by completing the three remaining units within three years.
