Course Requirements
Learners must meet all of the following entry criteria before being accepted onto this qualification to ensure they are suitably positioned to undertake the mandatory teaching practice component.
Hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification of at least the level above that of their learners; ideally a minimum Level 3 qualification in their own area of specialism
Have access to 100 teaching practice hours during which they have full responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing specific areas of provision
Meet the minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy, and ICT skills expected of teachers in the sector
Be 19 years old or older at the beginning of the course
Be able to read and communicate clearly and accurately enough to meet the requirements of training delivery
If not from a majority English-speaking country, provide evidence of English language competency in line with OTHM English Language Expectations
Assessments
All units are internally assessed by the approved centre and externally verified by OTHM. Assessment is criterion-referenced, based on the achievement of all specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Written assignments and reports covering knowledge-based learning outcomes (typically 3,000–4,000 words per unit)
Portfolio of teaching evidence compiled throughout the programme to evidence practice and achievement across units
Observed and assessed teaching practice with a minimum of 8 observations totalling at least 8 hours, linked to the two core mandatory teaching units
External verification by OTHM to ensure consistency and quality of assessment judgements across all approved centres
