Course Requirements
The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Public Administration has been designed to be accessible without creating artificial barriers, while maintaining the academic rigour appropriate for postgraduate study. The following entry requirements apply:
An honours degree in a related subject, a UK Level 6 diploma, or an equivalent overseas qualification (the degree may be in any subject, though preference may be given to those with background in Management, Business Studies, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or social sciences)
Mature learners with management experience may be considered — applicants must check with the delivery centre regarding relevant experience prior to registration
Learners must be 21 years of age or older at the commencement of the course
Alternative professional qualifications combined with a minimum of three years' relevant work experience in the public service field will also be considered
Learners not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency in line with OTHM's English Language Expectations
Assessments
All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the approved centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced, based on the achievement of all specified learning outcomes. To achieve a pass for any unit, learners must provide evidence demonstrating they have fulfilled all learning outcomes and met the standards set by all assessment criteria.
Written reports (typically approximately 4000 words per unit) demonstrating analysis and critical evaluation of relevant public administration topics
A presentation with speaker notes (approximately 500 words) for the Public Service Reform and Innovation unit
A research proposal (approximately 4000 words) for the Advanced Research Methods unit, covering aims, objectives, literature review, and methodology
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be applied to individual units where learners can demonstrate existing knowledge and competencies meeting the required assessment standards
Progression
Successful completion of the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Public Administration enables learners to progress into or within employment, and/or continue their academic journey at a higher level. As the qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual, learners are eligible for advanced standing entry into master's top-up programmes.
Progress to a Master of Arts (MA) in Public Administration top-up degree at a UK or overseas university with advanced standing
Progress to other relevant master's top-up or MBA programmes through OTHM's university progression arrangements
Move into or advance within senior management and leadership roles in local or national government
